Rising Health Insurance Costs Unaffordable?

Summary:

Offering employees health insurance may be more than an employer can afford.   Finding a plan with a low premium and good benefits at an affordable price is getting harder.  Rising health care costs are scaring away small-business employers who haven't previously offered health insurance, but feel the need to offer health insurance to their workers.

Implementing a plan that may cost $150 to $300 per employee per month is too high of a cost for many employers to absorb. Employees earning $10 to $12 per hour have trouble affording a $1,500 deductible and paying 30 percent of the cost.

Premiums have tripled, benefits have been reduced and deductible rates have increased for the past 10 years. With premiums increasing 15 to 35 % per year, the prospect of providing employees affordable health care appears to be diminishing.
